| The Job Training and Placement Program prepares participants for administrative careers requiring maturity, professionalism, and computer skills. 88% of those who complete the program leave with jobs averaging more than $13.25 an hour. |
Developed over the course of more than two years, and refined ever since, the program itself has drawn on best practices originally outlined by organizations like MDRC. The program combines computer training with life skills, paid experience, case management, career skills, mental health services, and long-term follow-up.
Surveys of local employers show a continuing need for administrative staff – office workers and customer services professionals – regardless of the changing nature of local industry. A February 2008 survey of Contra Costa employers revealed that of those who are likely to hire entry level workers over the next 12 to 18 months, 59% expect to be hiring office workers and 41% expect to be hiring customer service workers. State statistics from the Employment Development Department, the Labor Market Information numbers, confirm that there remains a great deal of opportunity for employees without a college degree within these fields.
