Job Training and Placement

The Job Training and Placement Program prepares participants for administrative careers requiring maturity, professionalism, and computer skills. 96% of those who completed the program last year started jobs averaging more than $13.65 an hour within three months of completing the program.

Developed over the course of more than two years, and refined ever since, the program itself has drawn on best practices originally outlined by organizations like MDRC. The program combines computer training with life skills, paid experience, case management, career skills, mental health services, and long-term follow-up.

Surveys of local employers show a continuing need for administrative staff: a recent analysis of the East Bay's occupational skills gaps shows that the largest gap between the skills of the region's resident workforce and those sought after by the region's employers is in sales and office occupations. (Special Report on the East Bay Workforce, East Bay Economic Development Alliance, May 2013, page 3). State statistics from the Employment Development Department, the Labor Market Information numbers, confirm that there remains a great deal of opportunity for employees without a college degree within these fields.
