DELTA COMMUNITY TECHNOLOGY CENTER
CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING SEPTEMBER 19th

ANTIOCH, Calif., September 5, 2003 – Delta Community Technology Center (Delta CTC), an Antioch program that provides free evening access to computers, tutoring, and skills workshops, will celebrate its Grand Opening on September 19th, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, at 3102 Delta Fair Boulevard.

The Grand Opening, which is open to the public, features appetizers, beverages, and special appearances by Assembly Member Joseph Canciamilla and County Supervisor Federal Glover. Assembly Member Canciamilla and Supervisor Glover will perform an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 6:00 PM.

Delta CTC opened its doors in May 2003 and has already served more than 130 area residents, providing computer-based instruction in computer skills, GED preparation, and English as a Second Language. “We think the drop-in design of the program really makes it accessible to our learners,” explains Jesse Golden, the Delta CTC Program Director. “Many of them have to work around commitments to jobs and family, so we have made the workshops modular. Each learner receives an individual consultation and learning plan.”

Adolfo Parra, who has been studying computer skills at Delta CTC, likes the system. “I have been able to proceed at my own pace, learning exactly what interests me, and the teachers have given me a lot of personal attention.”

Delta CTC's work is made possible by its partnerships with the following public and private organizations: the United States Department of Education, the Pittsburg Adult Education Center, and the California Consumer Protection Foundation.

Grand Opening food sponsors include: Thai Rice Cuisine (Antioch), Humphrey's (Antioch), Trader Joe's (Concord), CostCo (Antioch), Tacqueria Salsa (Antioch), Lyon's Restaurant (Antioch), and Albertson's (Antioch and Pittsburg).

Delta CTC is a project of non-profit Opportunities for Technology Information Careers (OPTIC). OPTIC and Delta CTC are dedicated to providing low-income Contra Costa residents with the technology, literacy and life skills that will enable them to become economically self-sufficient. They are located at 3102 Delta Fair Boulevard in Antioch, Calif. For more information, please visit http://www.optic-cc.org or call (925) 776-1133.
