NEW COMMUNITY TECHNOLOGY CENTER
OFFERS FREE EVENING CLASSES
ANTIOCH, Calif., April 8, 2003 - Delta Community Technology Center (Delta CTC), a non-profit program located in Antioch, Calif., will offer free evening access to computers, tutoring, and skills workshops beginning Monday, May 5, 2003. Orientations and registration for new students are at 6 p.m., Wednesday April 23 and Thursday May 1. Ongoing registration will be available beginning May 5.
Classes and workshops are free and ongoing for adult residents of Contra Costa County, Monday-Thursday evenings, 6-9 p.m., including:
- Meeting with an educational counselor
- Individualized computer-based study
- Help from tutors
- Computer skills workshops, including the basics of Windows and file management, word-processing and spreadsheet skills, and using the Internet
- GED Preparation classes and workshops
- English as a Second Language classes and workshops, including conversation, practice, and English for the workplace and for parents.
Delta CTC is a new program created by OPTIC, a non-profit organization. OPTIC opened in 2000 as a sustainable solution to Contra Costa County's need to move CalWORKS recipients and other underemployed residents to true economic self-sufficiency. Responding to the local demand for workers with strong technical and computer skills, OPTIC trains and then employs participants as part of the OPTIC DataWorks social enterprise.
