Microsoft Office Software Trainer, Opportunity Junction


Opportunity Junction is recruiting for a part-time Microsoft Office Software Trainer. The Microsoft Office Software Trainer provides direct instruction to a class of up to 20 trainees learning Microsoft Office software and other software, in preparation for employment in office administrative positions. The position is mornings, Monday-Thursday; 4 hours on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and 5 hours on Wednesdays. This position is year-round, with three months on and one month off. Teaching months are October-December, February-April, June-August.

The Job Training and Placement Program is intensive and life-changing. Historically, 83% of participants who complete this program leave with good jobs, and 80% of those who leave with a job are employed 18 months later.

Opportunity Junction is located in Antioch, easily accessible to the low-income communities of Eastern Contra Costa County and a reasonable reverse commute from West County, Central County, and Oakland.

Required Qualifications:
a. Eligible for Adult Education Vocational Skills Credential (see requirements at http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/cl698a.pdf).

b. Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Must be able to troubleshoot problems encountered both by the students and by the other staff.
c. Positive, motivational personality;
d. Solid understanding of relational databases; experience with both data entry and data quality checking, including the ability to develop curriculum for and/or teach these skills.
e. Ability to use and learn new applications without instruction. Ability to evaluate new software packages for purchase.
f. Ability to work with individuals at different levels of development
g. Ability to nurture learning and the development of a positive and professional work ethic.

Desired Qualifications - Microsoft Office Software Trainer:
j. Previous teaching experience.
k. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
l. Currently holds an Adult Education Vocational Skills Credential
m. Degree or academic units in a business, technical or educational field.
n. Experience in business use of software applications.
o. Working knowledge of PC-based accounting software, especially QuickBooks.

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit at a computer and use a keyboard and mouse during the entire workday. Preferably, can circulate among student workstations.
