We are proud and grateful to announce the following new grants and funding partnerships:
Bay Area Census Funders Collaborative: The Bay Area Census Funders Collaborative, a partnership of the East Bay Community Foundation, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, and Northern California Grantmakers, awarded a one-time grant to support Census 2020 outreach and education efforts in East Contra Costa County, focusing on residents who are low-income, lack access to technology, lack the skills to complete on-line Census 2020 forms, and/or have limited English proficiency. In service of those goals, we will be running classroom sessions where we help local residents complete the census forms online.
Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco: In partnership with First Republic Bank, Opportunity Junction was awarded a prestigious Access to Housing and Economic Assistance for Development (AHEAD) grant. The grant supports paid work experience for graduates of the Administrative Career Training Program (formerly called Job Training and Placement Program). AHEAD grants support nonprofit efforts to address pressing community development issues, including job training and financial education for underserved communities, among others.
Fund for Shared Insight: Opportunity Junction was invited to participate in the Listen4Good online beta program, testing an interactive website aimed at helping organizations systematically gather and respond to feedback from those they seek to help. Listen4Good is funded by the Fund for Shared Insight, a sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
Keller Canyon Landfill Mitigation Fund: Opportunity Junction is proud to have been awarded a grant from the County's Keller Canyon Mitigation Fund to support Bay Point and Pittsburg residents participating in our Administrative Career Training. Supervisor Federal Glover leads the board that administers the funding to support a wide range of programs affecting quality of life for residents in the vicinity of the Keller Canyon Landfill, including public safety, youth development, and community beautification.
San Francisco Foundation: A long-time supporter of Opportunity Junction, the San Francisco Foundation awarded a new grant for core operating support. The foundation is committed to advancing racial equity and economic inclusion in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Share the Spirit: We have been awarded a generous Share the Spirit grant to support our annual Alumni Holiday Party, spreading holiday cheer through celebration, as well as toys for children and gift cards for families to purchase food. Share the Spirit is a partnership of the Bay Area News Group - East Bay Times and the Contra Costa Crisis Center. Keep an eye out for a story in the East Bay Times highlighting an Opportunity Junction alum!
Sparkpoint Funders: The local and regional funders of SparkPoint Contra Costa have renewed their support for the collaborative, with a portion of that funding directed to support a career counselor at SparkPoint Contra Costa in Bay Point. The United Way of the Bay Area serves as a fundraiser and pass-through for the SparkPoints, and the Richmond Community Foundation serves as the fiscal agent and a co-lead agency for SparkPoint Contra Costa. Behind the scenes, Chevron is the largest supporter of SparkPoint Contra Costa.
Sutter Delta Medical Center (Sutter Bay Hospitals): Sutter Delta Medical Center awarded a grant to support Opportunity Junction's Administrative Career Training. Sutter Delta Medical Center invests in organizations, programs, and initiatives that work to address economic security, recognizing that financial health is associated with physical and mental health.
Y&H Soda Foundation: The foundation awarded a generous operating support grant. Y & H Soda Foundation is an anti- poverty organization committed to the full participation and prosperity of the underserved in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
